A series of slip cast ceramic forms that play with the functionality and typology of the ‘cup’.
Freshly slip cast forms are soft and flexible yet the maker often makes great efforts to maintain identical forms. This project allows the process of making to deform each cup, giving them their own identity yet together perfectly balancing on a shelf. Depite each cup being ‘functional’ the utility of each cup varies due to its distortion. This series of “Soft Cups” resulted in an installation of 80 slip cast cups that was exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual exhibition 2009 in Dublin.
“Spooning Cups” is a set created so that each cup sits with their rim level but only on a shelf with a specific angle.
